Basant Pachami is being celebrated across the country today. Saraswati Puja is celebrated on Basant Panchami that marks the beginning of the spring season. Basant means spring and Panchami means the fifth day, so Vasant Panchami literally means the fifth day of the spring season. On this day, Maa Saraswati– Goddess of knowledge, language, music and all arts is worshipped. Basant Panchami is worshiped in almost all localities as devotees install idols on auspicious place. The festival is significantly celebrated by the students, who chant Saraswati Vandana for their upliftment in studies. Youths observe day-long fast on Basant Panchami. Basant Panchami is considered as an auspicious occasion for students.On Saraswati Puja, women get ready in bright yellow sarees and men wear traditional kurtas and offer flowers and prasad to the goddess. On this day, children worship Goddess Saraswati, who is the deity of music, culture and learning.
